Giannis Antetokounmpo Affirms Commitment to Milwaukee Bucks

Giannis Antetokounmpo has made it clear that he hasn’t asked for a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks. In fact, he emphasizes his dedication to the team, describing himself as “bound” to play for them.

During a recent interview with The Athletic, published Thursday amid ongoing rumors about his future, Antetokounmpo, 31, stressed that he would never go public with a trade request. “There will never be an opportunity… where I say, ‘I want a trade,'” he stated. “It’s not in my… nature, okay?”

Although there have been previous mentions of the Bucks discussing potential trades with teams like the Knicks over the summer, there has been no substantial progress on that front.

Throughout this season, Antetokounmpo has consistently reiterated that he intends to stay with the Bucks. “I’m not going anywhere. I’m invested in this team,” he stated. “My priority is staying healthy and helping my teammates. We’re currently 4-2 in our last six games, and I believe we can build on that.” He’s committed to winning and playing good basketball.

Moreover, the star player sees his future with the Bucks very clearly. “I’m not in charge. I’m an employee,” Antetokounmpo said, reinforcing his intention to stay in Milwaukee indefinitely.

Interestingly, he’s also in a strong position contractually, eligible for a significant extension come October 1st. His current deal has an opt-out clause for the summer of 2027.

In wrapping up his interview, Antetokounmpo expressed his commitment to his teammates and the city, saying he is “one million percent” in. “I only look at the next game, the Lakers. We’re aiming to get some wins before the All-Star Game and climb up the standings,” he said, noting their current position isn’t reflective of the team’s potential. “So, that’s my focus.”
