Giannis Antetokounmpo Responds to Knicks Trade Rumors
MILWAUKEE — Giannis Antetokounmpo has addressed reports about his alleged desire to join the Knicks, expressing instead his satisfaction with the Bucks’ recent performance against them.
“We beat the Knicks,” he stated simply.
While he faced questions regarding the ESPN report suggesting he wanted a trade to New York, Antetokounmpo maintained he was unaware of such discussions. It’s a bit surprising, given that the story gained wide attention, but that’s his position.
“I don’t remember that,” he said. “Right now, my focus is on representing this team. We beat the Knicks, and that’s what matters.”
He went on to emphasize the importance of their upcoming game against the Golden State Warriors, indicating, perhaps indirectly, that he’s trying to sidestep rumors and speculation about trades. “I’ve not really paid attention to those articles. They don’t concern me. My goal is to help our team win,” he added.
This response feels more like a deflection than a straightforward denial, especially after a convincing win where Antetokounmpo likely felt good about his standing in Milwaukee, especially following a 121-111 victory over the Knicks.
Antetokounmpo expressed, “It was a great win, especially since they dominated us last year. I wanted to set the tone early in practice. The team responded well, and I’m really pleased.” He scored an impressive 37 points on 16-of-22 shooting in just 33 minutes.
During the game, with enthusiasm, he exclaimed, “This is my city,” asserting his toughness and resilience as he made impactful plays, including a block and a dunk.
For fans hoping to see him push for a trade to the Knicks, they may have been disappointed. Post-game, Antetokounmpo acknowledged the significance of winning against a challenging opponent. “We knew how tough the Knicks would be. Last year, they not only beat us, they really outperformed us. But this year is different,” he noted.
