Rumors about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s potential trade began circulating on Monday, hinting at a possible shift for the star of the Milwaukee Bucks. Reports suggest that he’s “open-minded” about the idea of continuing his career elsewhere, should he feel that his time in Milwaukee is coming to an end. The NBA team is expected to have discussions about his future, although no specific teams have been mentioned.
After the Bucks were eliminated from the playoffs by the Indiana Pacers, questions about Giannis’s loyalty to Milwaukee emerged. When asked if he believed he could secure another championship with the Bucks, he seemed uncertain. “I’m not going to do this. I know… whatever I say, I know how it translates,” he reflected. His desire to still be playing was evident as he expressed a longing to return to the court for Milwaukee.
Despite the swirling trade rumors, there’s no indication that the Bucks are seriously considering moving a two-time MVP and former champion. Still, the Bucks and Antetokounmpo’s representation are anticipated to discuss the offseason and potential options moving forward. He has two years left on his contract, along with an option for the 2027-28 season.
The team has made significant efforts to build a championship-contending roster, including the acquisition of Damian Lillard to join forces with Antetokounmpo and Chris Middleton. However, since their championship win in 2021, they’ve struggled to make it back to the conference finals, facing first-round eliminations in the past three postseasons. Coaching changes have also taken place, with Mike Budenholzer being replaced recently.
Several teams, like the Brooklyn Nets, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets, are seen as possible suitors for star players as the NBA Draft lottery results could influence the landscape in the coming days. Giannis, a nine-time All-Star, has left a major mark on the franchise, reminiscent of legends like Lew Alcindor. In the 2024-25 season, he put up impressive averages of 30.4 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.
