Giants appointing Greg Roman as a new support for John Harbaugh

Giants Hire Greg Roman to Boost Offense

When the Giants brought John Harbaugh on board, there was a strong belief he would create a high-quality coaching staff. And it seems he’s done just that, especially with the recent addition of Greg Roman.

Harbaugh initially interviewed Roman for the offensive coordinator role but opted for Matt Nagy instead. However, Roman, with his extensive experience as an offensive coordinator in the NFL, was still a viable option for the coaching staff.

Roman is expected to focus primarily on the Giants’ running game. At 53 years old, he has a long-standing relationship with the Harbaugh family.

Before joining the Giants, Roman was part of the Chargers’ staff, working under Jim Harbaugh, who let him go after a disappointing loss to the Patriots in the AFC Wild Card. It’s interesting to see how coaching changes can shift so quickly.

From 2018 to 2022, Roman played a key role as the offensive coordinator for the Ravens, surrounding rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson with a robust running game strategy.

After stepping back from the Ravens following the 2022 season, there seemed to be a lingering connection with the Harbaughs. Roman had previously worked with Jim Harbaugh at Stanford during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

His time with the 49ers from 2011 to 2014 was also noteworthy; he tailored their offense to maximize Colin Kaepernick’s skills, leading the team to Super Bowl 47, where they ultimately fell to John Harbaugh’s Ravens.

In 2015, Rex Ryan tapped him for the Bills’ offensive coordinator position. Now, he’ll be teaming up with Nagy to fine-tune the Giants’ offense, especially with Jackson Dart entering his second season in the NFL.
