Giants are already dealing with concerns over a new injury to Andrew Thomas

Andrew Thomas’s Return to Practice

Andrew Thomas participated in the initial team activities this week, but during Thursday’s practice at the Giants’ fieldhouse, he sat out the team period.

“He has shoulders,” head coach John Harbaugh remarked about Thomas. “He’s just come back and is doing his best. Those things? They’re within our control.”

This isn’t the first time Thomas has faced foot issues. He had Lisfranc surgery in 2024, which kept him out of the first two games of the 2025 season as he recovered. Now, however, the shoulder issue he’s dealing with seems to be a new hurdle.

While he completed his role in practice, he watched from the sidelines during the 11-on-11 drills.

“My shoulder issue is lingering,” Thomas said. “I’ve been working on it, and I think I’m in a decent spot.”

Interestingly, Thomas mentioned he didn’t require shoulder surgery this offseason. Keeping him healthy and on the field is a major priority for the Giants.

Throughout his six-year career, he’s missed 27 games due to various injuries despite starting all 16 games in his rookie year, 2020. When he’s at his best, he’s widely considered one of the top left tackles in the NFL.

“They have great growth plans for me,” he noted. “It’s more of a precaution. All we really care about is being ready by September. I believe in that. It’s definitely tough sometimes because there’s a desire to push and improve, but we’re trying to trust the process to ensure we’re ready when it counts.”

Harbaugh, who recently attended a town hall event for the Giants, reacted humorously to a comment from fans about the Cowboys, saying he hopes the team makes daily improvements that lead to enough progress to compete effectively against them.

Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb responded through Instagram with a light-hearted quip, calling Harbaugh’s comments “cute.”

“I have to admit, I love CeeDee’s comeback,” Harbaugh said with a smile. “It was cute.”

During the 11-on-11 period, the fieldhouse was filled with loud music, featuring nostalgic rock tracks from Guns N’ Roses and AC/DC.

Harbaugh shared his excitement about the playlist. “There will be some oldies, and it will be good,” he said. “My playlist is definitely in the mix.”

New recruit Sisi Mauigoa started as the right guard, while fifth overall draft pick Arbel Reese seemed at ease playing as a weakside linebacker with the first-team defense. He had a notable moment running alongside running back Dante Miller. Additionally, defensive tackle Darius Alexander had an offside call that amused the offense. Quarterback Jackson Dart has been focusing more on playing under center this spring, aiming to sharpen his rhythm and hard counts. “The kids jumped around a lot today,” Dart remarked. “It was fun.”
