Giants are ‘enticing’ for Bill Belichick in 2025: Julian Edelman

Bill Belichick is now a media pundit, but one of his former players is already considering where he might head to for the next head coach.

Currently appearing “Colin Cowherd and the Herd” On Tuesday, former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman said there's one job in particular that's a perfect fit for the eight-time Super Bowl champion.

“What's really appealing to me is the New York Giants opening day,” Edelman said. “I'm not demanding anybody's job. [Brian] Daboll. Daboll is my favorite. But the fate of what they put on the field is… you're going to sink with that ship.”

While it may be hard to imagine him leading the Giants sideline after the Patriots lost to Eli Manning and Big Blue in the Super Bowls in 2008 and 2012, Edelman said Belichick is fascinated by the franchise's rich history (he famously began his path to coaching greatness as defensive coordinator for Bill Parcells' Giants from 1985-89).

“If that were to happen, I vividly remember every time we played in New York or we played the Giants, there was a little jingle in Belichick's psyche because he loved to talk about those old Giants teams,” he said, “and he loved to talk about that organization. You could tell he loved the New York Football Giants. He loves the Giants. So I think that's probably where he'd want to go.”

With the Giants looking to become one of the NFL's weakest teams after a disastrous Week 1 loss to the Vikings, Daboll's spot is thought to be getting hotter.

The Giants also had a disappointing 2023 season, so if they don't show improvement by the end of the year, there could be an opening at the Meadowlands.

The 2024 NFL season will be the first time Belichick is out of a head coaching role since 1999, when he parted ways with the Patriots after last season, but he is not expected to be away from the field for long.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported last weekend that Belichick “still has stated his desire to return to coaching in 2025,” but “is expected to be cautious about returning to the sidelines.”

Even without a coaching position, football fans are likely to see more of Belichick this season than ever before.
