Logan Webb has had enough of the Giants’ slide, especially after Friday night’s 4-2 loss to the Reds.
The Giants lost Webb as a starter despite pitching seven strong innings, but are 3-7 in their last 10 games, averaging just three runs during a rough period.
Additionally, he has averaged 2.9 points in 15 games since scoring at least five points in consecutive wins against the Mets on April 22nd and 23rd.
“To be honest, it’s a dog overall.” Webb said of the team’s poor performance. on Friday night. “It’s frustrating. That’s not enough.”
Their problems stemmed from the absence of catcher Patrick Bailey behind the plate.
He was on the disabled list with a concussion until Saturday, and the Giants slotted him into the No. 3 spot in the batting order for a matinee game against Cincinnati at Oracle Park.
After the game, manager Bob Melvin shook his head and told reporters, “We lost our mojo.”
On Friday, Webb tried to take matters into his own hands, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Reds as the offense went silent after the second inning.
Webb tried to stop MLB stealth leader Ellie Delacruz and Stuart Fairchild on the bases, but was unable to do so due to Bailey’s lack of arms.
Delacruz stole two bases for his 25th steal of the season and scored in both innings.
Fairchild also added a point with an inside home run.
“Look, we can’t give these guys extra bases,” Melvin said. “Certainly, one of them ended up costing us a goal. When you don’t score a lot of goals, you have to play perfect defense to make mistakes. It was a combination of things. did.”
Webb pitched seven innings in Game 1 of a three-game series against the Reds, allowing eight hits and three runs with six strikeouts.
He pitched seven or more innings in five of his nine starts and posted a 3.38 ERA.
“He pitched seven innings, gave up three runs and only two earned runs, but still pitched pretty well,” Melvin added of Webb. “If he could only score two points, that would be a problem.”
