Giants' Cam Skattebo shares progress on injury recovery

Cam Skatebo’s Journey Back to Football

In San Francisco, Cam Skatebo has become something of a legend, especially in the tri-state area, emerging as the main running back for the New York Giants. His performance was impressive—seven touchdowns in just seven games. However, his season took a turn for the worse when he sustained a serious injury during the eighth game, which required emergency surgery. The injury involved a torn ligament due to an ankle dislocation, and the details were graphic enough to avoid showing on TV.

Now, four months later, Skatebo is eager to return to the field, feeling ready to take on the challenge of being a regular football player again.

“I’m feeling good. I’m getting healthier in the next few months,” he shared. “I’m starting to put the past behind me and get back to work.”

It’s unfortunate that many players face similar fates, but Skatebo looked to San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner for support and advice. Warner had faced a serious injury just a week before Skatebo, and their conversations provided some guidance.

“I talked to him a few times about what he’s doing and how he’s approaching things,” Skatebo explained. “He came back quickly, but my situation is a bit different since our team wasn’t in playoff contention.”

Despite the hurdles, Skatebo appreciated Warner’s influence. “I wanted to push myself like he did, even though the season wasn’t going great for me. He was a significant source of support.”

Looking ahead, the Giants seem poised to utilize a two-headed approach next season. Tyrone Tracy stepped up admirably in Skatebo’s absence, setting the stage for what could be an exciting combination in the backfield.
