Giants get glaring reminder that Malik Nabers needs help around him

There's a reason he's the precocious apple and No. 1 of Big Apple soccer.

Malik Nabors has already done wonders for Daniel Jones, preventing the Giants from having a failed 2024 season.

Malik Nabaas gave hope to a restless fan base.

Nabers has put the Giants back in the spotlight.

Once again, he was going to help the Giants beat the Big Bad Cowboys, and he almost did it.

He had 12 catches for 115 yards and suffered his first NFL concussion.

After 20 games for the Cowboys and 15 for the Giants, he was standing at his locker chatting with Giants senior vice president of medical services Robbie Burns and Jarrin Hiatt.

“Malik is tough…he's a bastard,” John Runyan Jr. said. “He gives it his all on every play, makes tough catches, makes big hits and bounces back quickly. I love seeing that as a rookie. Even though he's so young, he's one of the leaders on this team. I think he's the only one. He gives it his all and plays hard. We love to see him play with such passion.”

Neighbors suffered his first concussion in the NFL at the NYG 45 with Trevon Diggs on his back and 3:30 left on an incomplete call when Jones suffered his first concussion on a fourth-and-6 sideline throw. He appeared to bounce both feet and the Giants believed it was a catch.

“From my perspective, it looked like he did that,” Jones said. “He had another great game and did a great job for us. Keep believing in him.”

Nabers put her chin in her hand and later posted on Instagram: [prayer hands emoji] Thank you for your prayers. ”

But you can't be a hero if your team can't run the ball, can't threaten all over the field, and if your quarterback can't lead your team to the end zone.

Jones has lost 12 of 13 in prime time, and the Cowboys used him as a piñata in their humiliating 40-0 2023 home opener.

He was subjected to relentless jeers during and after the 2024 home opener.

He was coming off the mat.

Greg Joseph had five field goals, but Jones had no TDs.

This was his chance to be Danny Dimetime. Danny Prime Time.

Wan'Dale Robinson had 11 catches for 71 yards, but no TD from Jones.

So Nabors wasn't on the field when Jones intercepted Hyatt's desperation bomb from 49 seconds into the Dallas 4 with 28 seconds left following a rare FG miss by Brandon Aubrey.

Daboll had the quarterback's back. “I thought the quarterback threw the ball where he was supposed to throw it to the guy he was supposed to throw it to,” Daboll said.

Jones (29 of 40, 281 yards) made no mistakes until the end. he made a good decision. He made a lot of little plays against Robinson, against Nabers.

But there were no big plays when it really mattered.

No touchdowns.

There were some familiar self-inflicted injuries and dropped passes, but the bottom line is that Jones must be able to overcome the adversity that often swirls around him.

I asked Jones how frustrating it was that he couldn't get his team into the end zone.

“It's very frustrating,” he said. “It's very frustrating. “We're expected to score touchdowns and put points on the board…We moved the ball well and executed a lot of things well, but we didn't execute the red zone thing. We didn't do that, we didn't punch in, so that's frustrating.”

Neighbors will need more help around him before the Giants start closing the gap on the Cowboys and Eagles.

Given an early free play on third-and-14 in the first half, Jones intercepted Darius Slayton's underthrow.

A long bomb for Nabors was a veritable Hail Mary to double cover, but it was nearly intercepted. “We've got to hit them and give our guys a chance to play,” Jones said.

The Cowboys held off the Neighbors' onslaught, but Dak Prescott was able to beat Deonte Banks to CeeDee Lamb for a 55-yard catch-and-run TD.

Neighbors was catching passes from Jaden Daniels at LSU when the Cowboys suffered a humiliating 40-0 loss to the Giants, setting the mood for the depressing and demoralizing atmosphere of last season.

He was surprising scouts when desperate Giants fans emerged from Wetlife Stadium. When too many Cowboys fans were singing in the rain.

“We didn't try hard enough to win,” Jones said.

There are no medals for trying. You don't get a medal without a touchdown.
