Graham Gano called the criticism of Brian Daboll for not using an extra kicker on Sunday “ridiculous.”
Gano was placed on the injured list last Saturday with a minor groin injury that was completely unrelated to the hamstring injury he suffered at the opening kickoff that caused him to be pulled from the game.
“Why did he [get criticized]”With the hamstring, nobody expected that,” Gano said Wednesday, “and if they did, I think that's ridiculous. With the groin, I was able to kick it perfectly. I was able to kick it back 60 yards and was very accurate.”
Asked if the two injuries were related, Gano said: “No way. They're in completely different parts of the body. It was just bad luck. It's unfortunate that it happened.”
Gano went inside to bandage his groin during warmups but said he wasn't worried it would interfere with his game, went through his usual pregame routine and felt fine.
Punter Jamie Gillan missed the extra point after the first touchdown, forcing the Giants to try for a two-point conversion after the next two scores, but was unsuccessful.
They couldn't even attempt a field goal.
In the end they lost by three points.
Gano was subsequently placed on injured reserve and was replaced on Wednesday by kicker Greg Joseph, who was on the Lions' practice squad.
