Giants hire experienced Tim Kelly to quickly replace tight ends coach

LAS VEGAS — Yes, the Giants did indeed add an offensive coordinator.

That’s new tight ends coach Tim Kelly, who was hired by Brian Daboll on Tuesday. Kelly served as the Titans’ offensive coordinator in 2023.

Kelly, 37, replaces Andy Bischoff, who left the Giants on Monday to work with Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers.

A day after Daboll named Shane Bowen the Giants’ new defensive coordinator, he again asked the Titans to add to their staff.

Kelly has been an NFL coach for 10 years and has served as offensive coordinator for two different teams.

He coached tight ends for the Texans in 2017 and 2018, and coach Bill O’Brien promoted Kelly to offensive coordinator in 2019.

He added quarterbacks coach to his responsibilities in 2020.

Mike Vrabel brought Kelly to the Titans as passing game coordinator in 2022 and promoted him to offensive coordinator last season.

In 2022, Kelly worked as a tight end for Tennessee, introducing a passing attack on first and second downs and helping set up the red zone.

The Titans’ tight ends rank seventh in the NFL with 952 receiving yards, led by rookie Chig Okonkwo, a fourth-round draft pick.

As the Texans’ offensive coordinator in 2021, Kelly helped rookie quarterback Davis Mills set a franchise rookie record with 2,664 passing yards. Mills also led the league with a red zone passer rating of 116.8 that year.

Kelly was a defensive tackle at Eastern Illinois University. His younger brother Dennis spent five seasons with the Titans as an offensive lineman and appeared in one game with the Jets in 2023.

The Giants’ Kelly will try to find a way to keep tight end Darren Waller healthy while continuing to develop Daniel Bellinger.
