Giants kicker Mason Crosby relishes reunion with Aaron Rodgers

Mason Crosby was thrilled to be attending his best friend Aaron Rodgers' 40th birthday party.

The bash was held at Zero Bond in NoHo on Dec. 3 and was attended by celebrities including actor Miles Teller, Olympian Lindsey Vonn and Rodgers' Jets teammates.

“I never thought I'd be back in this part of New York after that, but it's crazy how life works out,” Crosby told the Post.

Crosby, 39, left the NFL after spending the past 16 years with the Packers, staying permanently in Green Bay with Rodgers, who joined the team in 2005.

Crosby made 395 field goals with the Packers, making him the career leader in points (1,918 points) and games played (258).

Crosby was out of a job and the season was coming to an end until the Giants signed him to their practice squad two days before Christmas.

They needed another kicker after Cade York injured his quadriceps in practice.

York replaced Randy Bullock, who went down with a hamstring strain.

Bullock was replacing Graham Gano, who kicked for the first eight games of the season before needing knee surgery.

That whirlwind at the kicker position allowed Crosby to return to the game as a temporary replacement with the Giants.

He has made 3-of-4 field goal attempts in two games with his new team, making a 52-yard shot on his first kick with the Giants in New Orleans, and a 26-yarder from 54 yards to go last week. I missed the close-up. -25 loss to the Rams.

Crosby will end his short stay in New Jersey on Sunday when he kicks for the Giants in their final game of the season against the Eagles at MetLife Stadium.

As of midweek, he hadn't yet joined Rodgers, who missed all but the Jets' first four games this season and was placed on injured reserve with a torn Achilles tendon.

“When I saw him go down there, my heart ached for him,” Crosby said. “We’ve been through a lot together. We played together in Green Bay for a really long time. I grieved in the same way. He was a special person, he was important to me and my family, and obviously he played a special role in our lives.”

Rodgers will try again to turn the Jets' fortunes around by becoming the starting quarterback in 2024, but his longtime buddy won't bet on him.

“We don't do that with Aaron,” Crosby said. “He was trying to see if he could come back this year, which is unheard of. , who works best in that role of being kind of the underdog and trying to prove people wrong.”

This could be the Giants' final game of the season, their first in true winter weather, with snow expected to change to a mix of snow and rain throughout the day until the storm passes by the evening. ing.

The Eagles will be without their No. 2 receiver, WR DeVonta Smith, with an ankle sprain.
