Rookie Abdul Carter Making Waves with the Giants

Abdul Carter might be new to the NFL, but the linebacker for the New York Giants seems to have a knack for talking smack, showcasing a confidence that’s hard to miss. Recently, during the Giants’ second preseason game, the Jets’ tight end Stone Smart delivered a chip block that was dubbed a “welcome to the NFL” moment. It was, well, quite the welcome.

During that game, the Jets didn’t hold back. Carter found himself in a few scrums with Jets players like tackle Chukhumao Korafo, which only added to the intensity on the field.

After the game, the NFL shared a clip of one of Carter’s plays on X, prompting him to fire back with a quip at the Jets. He joked, “It may be the only highlight of the Jets all season,” and went on to critique another play, describing it as akin to a “barbecue” by the midfield.

Some users on X weren’t too pleased with Carter’s remarks, reminding him that it was just a preseason game and perhaps he should ease up. But, it’s clear that Carter’s self-assurance remains steadfast. His bold attitude fits right in as the Giants look to benefit from his talent, having picked him third overall in the draft back in April.

Despite some bumps along the way, Carter has been impressive during practices and the two preseason games he’s participated in so far. Recently, the Giants and Jets held a joint practice, which culminated in the “Snoopy Bowl” at MetLife Stadium. Reports indicate that Carter has been performing well alongside his defensive line teammates.

Interestingly, last week, Carter only played a handful of snaps against another rival, the Buffalo Bills. Yet, the Giants are optimistic that the consistent pressure he displayed at Penn State will translate well to the professional level. There’s a sense that, even if things get heated between the Jets and Giants, there’s plenty of talent on both sides.

The Jets have recently had the upper hand in their matchups, winning the last three encounters. However, before that, the Giants had taken five straight. As for Carter and his squad, they’re set to wrap up their preseason against the New England Patriots at home this Thursday.
