Giants pitcher Logan Webb reveals he was hungover during MLB All-Star Game: ‘Don’t throw up’

Earlier this season, one MLB All-Star took his celebrations a little too far in Arlington, Texas.

San Francisco Giants veteran starting pitcher Logan Webb is their most reliable pitcher, but he admitted to being hungover when he played in the MLB All-Star Game and blew a 3-0 National League lead.

Webb revealed this truth. “Rose Rotation” PodcastHe said he went a little too far at the open bar party after the Home Run Derby.

“All-Star day was probably the most hungover day I've ever been,” Webb said. “I take full responsibility for that. It was a lot of fun. It was a great experience. Watching the derby. There was a player celebration after the game, it was like a party for the players and their families.”

“Lil Jon was DJing in the middle of the Cowboys stadium. There was free drinks. It was just fun. I didn't enjoy it when my wife woke me up at 7 a.m. and said, 'Look, I need to put my makeup on right now.' I was like, 'Oh man, this is going to be a long day.' And it was a long day.”

Of course, Webb didn't wake up right away to the All-Star Game, but the hangover remedies he tried didn't seem to work.

Fast forward to the third inning, and Webb is warming up for his All-Star Game appearance at Globe Life Field.

“I was nervous, I was excited, I drank a lot of Red Bull, I took Tylenol to try to cure the hangover,” he said. “I feel like I wasted all those good pitches in the bullpen. That was everything to me, and I wasted it all.”

And when Webb's name was called to enter the game, he had only one thing on his mind.

“'Don't spit, don't spit, don't spit, don't spit,'” Webb kept telling himself. And it was a long jog. I don't think he even made the first pitch. [Dodgers catcher] Will Smith.

Webb's inning began with a single from Texas Rangers star Marcus Semien and a walk from Cleveland Guardians star Steven Kwan, quickly putting two runners on base. Webb finally got the out when Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson hit a grounder, putting runners on second and third with one out and New York Yankees phenom Juan Soto coming to bat.

Soto hit a two-RBI double and the Guardians' David Frye hit a game-tying single to bring Soto home.

“I felt so bad when I walked out of the game,” Webb said. “Seven million people were watching. I was like, 'This team is going to hate me.' I walked into the dugout and I said, 'Sorry guys, sorry guys.' And all the superstars on the national team were like, 'Hey, who cares?' They were like, 'Who cares, who cares, who cares, who cares?' And that was the only voice I heard while I was walking out. And I was like, 'OK, I feel better now.'”

Webb's teammates didn't mind him losing the lead, but he would have liked to have played better in front of baseball fans. He also noted that Shohei Ohtani would have won MVP if he had hit a home run in his first at-bat, and said the Los Angeles Dodgers star is a fan favorite.
