Giants speak with Dolphins coach Robert Prince for offensive coordinator position

Potential Revival for Jalin Hiatt’s Giants Career

Jalin Hiatt’s time with the Giants hasn’t been exactly stellar, but it seems like things might be changing, thanks to Robert Prince and John Harbaugh.

Recently, Harbaugh and Prince had discussions about the Giants’ open offensive coordinator role. NFL Network shared this news.

Although Todd Monken, the former Ravens offensive coordinator, is in the running for the position, he’s also being considered for the head coach role with the Browns. Harbaugh is exploring other options too.

Interviewing both Prince and Willie Taggart would help the Giants meet the Rooney Rule while allowing them to choose candidates freely. Taggart might join the Giants’ staff in some role, maybe even as a running backs coach, and veteran receivers coach Prince could follow a similar path.

It’s interesting, to say the least. Prince and Hyatt have a bit of history. During Tennessee’s Pro Day in 2023, there was a notable exchange between Prince and Hyatt, who was then the Cowboys’ receivers coach.

Prince remarked to Hyatt, “You know who you are. What I’m saying is, you have the skill set.”

Curiously, Hyatt asked, “What is that skill set?”

Prince simply said, “It’s your speed.”

Hyatt, perhaps feeling a bit insulted, replied, “Yeah, but I can do the route.”

Prince shot back, “You’ll soon find out.”

“We’ll see,” came Hyatt’s retort.

Hyatt, who won the Biletnikoff Award at Tennessee, unexpectedly slid to the third round of the draft amid concerns from various teams. His initial time with the Giants didn’t help alter opinions about his skills.

After some promise in his rookie season, mostly with deep throws, he managed only 13 catches for 97 yards over the last two years, often finding himself inactive due to being a healthy scratch last season. He’s gone without a touchdown in 41 regular-season appearances.

With a coaching shake-up, there’s hope for a fresh start for Hyatt, yet Prince’s earlier views on him don’t seem to differ much from those of past coaches like Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka, who also had their reservations.

Bringing in Prince, who was the Dolphins’ receivers coach last season, might signal that Hyatt needs a career reboot elsewhere.

Nevertheless, when Hyatt reflected on their past as a rookie, he maintained a graceful attitude, calling Prince a “great coach” and stating, “I don’t have any hard feelings.”
