Giants tight end goes to Knicks game even though he's sick and not playing

Johnson Makes Appearance Despite Illness

Theo Johnson, the tight end for the New York Giants, attended the New York Knicks game on Friday night, even after missing the Giants’ Week 18 game earlier that day due to health issues.

The 24-year-old was absent during the Giants’ 34-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 17 because of an illness. As a result, he did not participate in practice throughout the week. Fans speculated on social media that Johnson’s illness might have been fabricated to enhance the team’s draft prospects.

To add to the chatter, Johnson shared a photo of himself on the Jumbotron at Madison Square Garden, captioned with, “I’m not sick,” which seemed somewhat provocative.

On Saturday, the Giants clarified that Johnson is dealing with an infectious disease; however, it was confirmed that he does not have the flu or COVID-19 and can interact safely with others. His illness was first noted in the injury report last Friday.

Interim head coach Mika Kafka mentioned, “He’s still dealing with some sickness and an infection. We’re managing it and hoping he clears up soon,” according to a local outlet.

A win against the Raiders meant that the Giants could still change their draft position, contrary to the speculation that they were trying to secure a top pick. Winning or losing on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys could have significant implications for their draft ranking. If they win, they could drop down to the seventh position, depending on the outcomes of other teams.

The scenario is a bit tricky; winning doesn’t guarantee the shift they’re hoping for—if teams like the Browns and Titans win, a Giants victory would be less consequential in terms of draft positioning.

If the Giants lose, they could still have a shot at the top draft pick, but it hinges on several other game results needing to align in their favor.

This whole situation has generated quite a buzz, particularly with Johnson’s attendance at the Knicks game. Fans were left pondering whether he was really unwell, especially since a victory might hinder their chances of securing that top pick.

Despite having dropped five passes this season, Johnson has displayed remarkable ability with 45 receptions for 528 yards and five touchdowns over 15 games.
