New York Giants Make Major Changes After Coach Firing
There are significant changes underway for the New York Giants as reports confirm the team has parted ways with head coach Brian Daboll.
In a surprising move, Jameis Winston is set to start at quarterback for the Giants in their upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. This will be Winston’s first appearance for the Giants, and he’s currently the third-string quarterback, following Jackson Dart and Russell Wilson.
Dart, unfortunately, won’t be cleared to play in Week 11 due to a concussion he sustained late in the game against the Chicago Bears last week. Wilson played during that match but apparently didn’t make a strong enough case for inclusion in the offense against the Packers.
With the playoffs increasingly out of reach as the season progresses, it seems that the Giants are willing to give Winston an opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities within Mike Kafka’s offensive scheme.
Winston, who has had a somewhat tumultuous career since leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2019 season, finished that year leading the league with 5,109 passing yards, though he also led in interceptions, throwing 30. Last season, he played in 12 games for the Cleveland Browns, starting seven, and had a record of 2-7 during those starts, completing 2,121 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
After Daboll’s dismissal, Mike Kafka has stepped up as the interim head coach for the team.
