Giants to Start Jameis Winston as Jackson Dart Remains Injured
The New York Giants are set to have Jameis Winston start as quarterback for the second consecutive week, as rookie Jackson Dart is still recovering from a concussion. Interim head coach Mike Kafka shared this decision on Friday, gearing up for the upcoming game against the Detroit Lions.
Dart had participated in practice on a limited basis Thursday, which had sparked some hope among fans that the promising rookie might make his return. Sadly, that won’t be happening, and Dart will be sidelined for the game.
The 22-year-old Dart sustained a concussion during the fourth quarter of a previous game, where the Giants faced the Chicago Bears. At the time of his injury, New York was leading, but they eventually lost the game 24-20, particularly after a shift in management with Russell Wilson stepping in.
The injury occurred when Dart was hit hard while running the ball, resulting in a fumble. Prior to his injury, he was having a solid performance, having completed 19 of 29 passes for 242 yards, also contributing 66 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Winston, now 31, will take the helm for his first start this season after completing a previous game with 19 of 29 passes for 201 yards, one interception, and a touchdown in a 27-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
In nine games so far, Dart has completed 62.7% of his passes, accumulating 1,417 yards, with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions, along with 317 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
As the Giants (2-9) prepare to play against the Lions (6-4) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, it raises questions about how this game will unfold, given the current team dynamics and challenges.
