Giants’ Tyrone Tracy cleared, Malik Nabers trending toward playing in Week 17

A day earlier, Giants rookie receiver Malik Nabers said it was a “game-time decision” whether he would be available for Sunday's final home game against the Colts at MetLife Stadium due to a toe injury. Ta.

On Friday, Nabors practiced for the first time this week, and it seems pretty certain he will be cleared to play.

He is officially listed as questionable for this game.

Rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. also didn't practice until Friday due to an ankle injury, but he was officially released even though his name wasn't even on the injury report released Friday afternoon. was allowed.

With 97 receptions, Nabors needs three more yards to reach the magical 100-reception mark and 31 to reach 1,000 receiving yards.

Giants manager Brian Daboll said before Friday's practice that he was “hopeful” that both rookies would be ready for Sunday's game.

Nabors took part in the early part of the training session, which was open to the media, and was active without any noticeable limitations.

“Whether I'm injured or not, I have to go out on the football field and play with my brothers every chance I get,” Nabors said Thursday. “We know that many people are battling serious injuries in facilities and buildings right now.” [and] They still continue to go out and play ball.

“If I can, I’m going to be there with them and continue to throw the ball with them.”

Tracy, a fifth-round pick out of Purdue, has 721 yards rushing in 15 games and 10 starts and is 16 yards away from 1,000 yards from scrimmage.

Players not playing Sunday include starting center John Michael Schmitz (ankle), linebacker Micah McFadden (neck), cornerback Greg Stroman Jr. (shin and shoulder) and safety Raheem Lane. (knee) included.

With Schmitz sidelined, the Giants will play with different offensive line combinations for the ninth time this season, tying New England for the most in the NFL.

The Giants used 10 starting combinations for the 2023 season.

McFadden leads the team with 107 tackles (60 solo), which comes as the Giants already have their three primary tacklers on IR, linebacker Bobby Okereke (back) and safety Tyler Nubin (ankle). That means he will miss this season.

Colts second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson hasn't practiced all week with back and foot injuries, so the Giants will almost certainly face 39-year-old veteran Joe Flacco.

Whether that's good or bad news for the Giants is debatable.

Richardson completed just 47.7 percent of his passes, throwing eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Flacco has a 66.5 percent completion rate and has five INTs from nine TD passes.

Coach Daboll said inside linebacker Deyontae Johnson will have a chance to play in this game.

“Whether it's in the kicking game or on defense, he's going to have a chance,” Daboll said. “He did a good job for us in the preseason. He's an intelligent player, he's athletic.”

Another linebacker who could see some action is Ty Summers.

Daboll was asked what his “message” would be to Giants fans who have yet to see a win at MetLife Stadium this season (0-8 so far).

“We certainly appreciate the support,” Daboll said. “You want to give them a better product in terms of the results that we're putting out now, but [we] I certainly appreciate it. [We’re] I'm just trying to get a win here. That's what we think. ”

Giants safety Jason Pinnock rushed for a franchise-record 335 yards Sunday, considering he only threw 11 passes in the Colts' last game, a 38-30 win over Tennessee. He has a pretty good understanding of the Colts' game plan around center.

“I think they’re going to come move the ball because you can’t fix what isn’t broken, and looking at the weather conditions. [rain is in the forecast]J.T. [Colts running back Jonathan Taylor] I think they'll try to use him because he's a good back. ”

In fact, Taylor was named the AFC's Offensive Player of the Week last weekend after rushing for 218 yards and three TDs, including runs of 65 and 70 yards.

The Giants rank second-last in the league with 142.6 rushing yards per game.
