Giants Week 10 report card: All-around unacceptable in Germany

giants ratingOn Sunday, they lost 20-17 in overtime to the Panthers in Germany.

While some of the final numbers aren't terrible, the results are still unacceptable.

Daniel Jones (22-of-37, 190 yards, 2 INTs) ran for a touchdown, but got off to a very slow start and missed a wide-open Malik Nabors on the opening series.

His passer rating of 50.5 is depressing to watch.

Nabers (6-50) continues to lose, but he hasn't been able to get down on the field and reap big gains.

Rookie Tyrone Tracy (18-103, 1 TD) ran hard and his 32-yard scoring run was great.

His fumble at the start of overtime handed the game over, which was disappointing. He needs to learn from it and move on.

Jalin Hiatt (4-39) dusted himself off and got caught.

Malik Nabors was limited to six catches for 50 yards against Carolina. AP

Jermaine Elemunah moved to left tackle and was taken down with a flea flicker by DJ Wonnum for a killer sack.

The 167 yards rushing was OK, but three turnovers (two in the red zone) cost them the football.

defense

Will this unit be able to fasten their seatbelts and stop the rampage?

The 188-yard rush (averaging 5.9 yards per rush) was pathetic, and Tuba Hubbard (28-153) easily got to the edge on crack toss.

Brian Burns was sacked early against his old team, but then Bryce Young (15-of-25, 126 yards, 1 TD) flipped the ball away at lightning speed. Giving up an 80-yard drive after cutting the lead to 10-7 wasn't exactly complementary football.

Tuba Hubbard beat the Giants with 169 all-purpose yards and a touchdown. AP

They allowed 190 yards in the first half, but came clean in the second half (116 yards).

Rookies Tyler Nubin (12 tackles) and Drew Phillips were both strong tacklers. Phillips forced a fumble late in regulation that was recovered by DJ Davidson.

This group has no margin for error.

In his first game since Week 2, Graham Gano returned and attempted a 43-yard field goal that quickly missed to the right side. That didn't help.

He then made a 42-yard run with five seconds left to force OT. Jamie Gillan's first punt was well placed, driving the Panthers to their own 10-yard line.

His second punt was 42 yards to the 9-yard line. In the third quarter, Gillan mishit a lowliner, but the ball was returned 13 yards.

He made four of his five kicks inside the 20 range.

Ihimir Smith-Marsette was called for a double penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (for throwing the ball at a Panthers player) and unnecessary roughness after making a fair catch.

coaching

Should Brian Daboll bench Daniel Jones after a scoreless first half?

Mr Daboll said he had not considered that. He second-guessed himself for calling a flea flicker on third-and-one in the second quarter.

It seems like no matter what he calls something often goes wrong.

This isn't going to work unless Shane Bowen's defense can stop giving up runs.

Setting the edge was an option, so his team couldn't hold the fort on outside runs.
