Gingrich applauds Hegseth pick: Pentagon needs ‘complete overhaul’

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Pennsylvania) said on Sunday's episode of WABC 770 AM's “Cats Roundtable” that President-elect Trump has reorganized the government with unexpected Cabinet picks. He praised that.

“I'm watching President Trump create the most reform-minded Cabinet of my lifetime,” he told John Cassimidis.

He said he would have a “great team” if President Trump nominated former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Fox News host Pete Hegseth. In particular, he emphasized the need for a “complete team.” “Overhaul” at the Pentagon.

“It's going to take a lot of courage and resilience on Pete Hegseth's part to survive there because the whole old order is trying to destroy him,” Gingrich warned.

Hegseth's selection has raised questions from lawmakers about his qualifications, background and ability to lead the country's defense efforts.

But Gingrich believes his unique background will allow him to give the military the realignment it needs.

“I've been actively involved in thinking about and working on defense for a very long time, and I can tell you this: This building needs a very complete overhaul,” Gingrich said. Explained.

“There was one retired military official who worked with Mr. Trump who said he would recommend that the president retire all three- and four-star generals,” he added.

“And then go down to two stars and elect a whole new generation of leaders. He thinks that between Obama and Biden, the whole system is just getting weaker and more corrupt.”

The former president is reportedly drafting an executive order that would call for an external review of ranking service members that could lead to their removal from service.

Gingrich faces a new political climate at hand as Sen. John Thune (R-La.) and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) win a combined majority and work with the Trump administration. He emphasized that it was coming.

He acknowledged that Johnson has “the toughest job in Washington today,” but called Thune a “good guy who bridges the gap for everyone.”

He shared that the three companies can bring much-needed improvements to cities across the country.

“I think one of President Trump's promises should be to actually redden our cities to ensure jobs and safety and to have decent, honest government,” Gingrich concluded. “Well, that's a very good project.”
