Gingrich says he hopes Trump will plan speeches in large cities

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said Wednesday that he expects former President Trump to plan speeches in major cities to attract lawmakers from President Biden’s base.

Gingrich was responding to Fox News host Sean Hannity, who said the incumbent president is losing “a ton” of his base of supporters. Hannity added that he sees this as an “opportunity” for President Trump to reach out.

Asked how the former president could appeal to them, Gingrich explained that President Trump should visit big cities to make his case.

“Well, you might be surprised, but I think this country wants ideas more than anger. I think this country wants to see presidential candidates in big cities,” he told Fox News. He spoke on the “Hannity” show.

“I hope Mr. Trump plans seven, eight, nine speeches from Philadelphia to Baltimore to New York to Boston to Chicago to San Francisco,” the former lawmaker added.

Many of America’s largest cities are led by Democrats, and presidential elections tend to lean toward the Democratic Party. Mr. Gingrich suggested that Mr. Trump might win some votes, noting that San Francisco voters support requiring drug testing for welfare recipients, saying, “This is… It’s a big change,” he added.

“And when we partner with Elon Musk, for example, to create a space program for the next 10 years that inspires everyone, we want a presidential candidate who is unifying and visionary. “I believe we have a country. Young Americans believe they have a great and dynamic future,” he said.

He also suggested that Trump could attract younger voters, black voters, Latinos and Asian Americans if he is “positive and assertive” and goes “everywhere.”

According to The Hill/Decision Desk’s average national poll, Mr. Trump leads Mr. Biden by 1 point with an approval rating of 44.5%.
