Gio Reyna’s Memorable Victory and Personal Announcement
Right after Gio Reyna scored the decisive goal for the U.S. men’s national team in a 4-1 World Cup win against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium on Friday, he enjoyed a celebration he’ll likely remember forever.
Reyna playfully tucked the ball under his shirt, mimicking a baby bump, and sucked his thumb—a typical gesture among soccer players announcing a pregnancy. Later, he shared on Instagram that he and his wife, Chloe, are expecting a child.
In his post, Gio expressed, “Thank you LA! I love this team! It’s just the beginning! Celebrating the little one who’s coming.”
Following Gio’s announcement, Chloe also took to Instagram to celebrate the happy news with her own post.
After the match, Gio spoke to reporters, confirming, “My wife is pregnant.” He revealed that he, his wife, and his parents had known for some time and were just waiting for the right moment to share the news.
Interestingly, his family encouraged him to be a bit more selfish during important moments, especially with the game-ending and a comfortable lead. It seems like a moment they won’t forget anytime soon.
Reyna mentioned, “These questions are always difficult for me. Honestly, when I’m playing, I don’t think about anything. I just do what feels natural. I was in a good area, got a great pass, and was focusing on the angle of the far post.”
To top it all off, this goal was also his first in a World Cup, adding to the excitement of the occasion. As they celebrate this achievement, the U.S. team is shifting focus to their next match against Australia on June 19th at Lumen Field in Seattle.
