Girl with two dolls this Christmas will have a ‘better life than her parents’

Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent addressed economic uncertainty on Tuesday, referencing President Trump’s doll analogy.

In an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle,” Bescent defended Trump’s idea that a cultural shift is necessary for consumer spending, suggesting this change could benefit American kids as rising prices correlate with increased tariffs.

“Recently, a reporter here was quite disrespectful when President Trump discussed a girl with two dolls,” Bescent remarked during the interview.

“I told her that she’ll have a better life than her parents, and that she and her family can be optimistic because of President Trump’s leadership,” he added, implying that this optimism contrasts with previous generations’ outlook.

These days, Trump and his aides have been reshaping economic expectations, advocating for Americans to spend less but pay more due to rising tariffs.

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham reported concerns that toy shortages might occur during the holiday season, prompting her to ask Bescent about the political and economic pressures from fears of increasing prices amid Trump’s trade strategies.

“We’re sticking to our guns, but remember, the U.S. and China have mutual interests. They’re in a tough spot, selling significantly more to us than we sell to them, making it challenging for their market,” the Treasury Secretary explained. “However, we’re not looking for separation or decoupling.”

His remarks follow the Trump administration’s introduction of a 10% tariff on nearly all foreign imports, with China facing particular scrutiny, seeing tariffs as high as 145% on U.S. goods.

Negotiations are ongoing between the administration and Chinese officials, although no specific discussions have been confirmed.

On Tuesday, Trump downplayed the necessity of foreign trade relationships, a stance that Bescent supported during the interview.

“President Trump has unique insight into his strategies,” he stated on Fox News, “but this information is not something we will share.”

“Once again, with Trump, there’s a certain strategic uncertainty which will ultimately lead us to the best possible deal,” Bescent concluded, noting this dynamic in discussions with trading partners.
