Influencer Couple Announces Difficult Decision

Social media influencers Jesse and Ashley Ridgway recently shared their excitement about becoming first-time parents. However, a prenatal test revealed that their baby would have Down syndrome, leading them to make the “very difficult decision” to terminate the pregnancy.

In his announcement, Jesse expressed his feelings, stating, “Down syndrome is not a blessing. It is objectively terrible from a health standpoint,” as he listed various medical complications related to the condition.

He ended by thanking their audience for “understanding” their choice, but the response they received was overwhelmingly negative.

The couple’s announcement ignited intense backlash from pro-life advocates, disability supporters, and parents of children with Down syndrome, who criticized their decision as “evil” and called them “murderers.”

Glenn Beck, deeply affected by the Ridgways’ decision, expressed a more profound concern about societal values, questioning what will happen if human worth is measured by factors like intelligence and health.

Referencing Latter-day Saint beliefs, Glenn wondered if individuals with Down syndrome were sent to Earth as special beings meant to fight against evil. He shared his experiences with children who have Down syndrome, saying, “Their default is love; their default is kindness.”

As a father of a daughter with cerebral palsy, Glenn reflected on the lessons he has learned from her strength and resilience, calling her his hero. Despite the difficulties of raising a child with a disability, he believes it’s all worth it.

He further argued that abortion supporters possess a self-centered view of life, suggesting that such beliefs could lead society to exclude the vulnerable, making it less humane.
