Redefining Conservatism
Many on the right today often associate conservatism solely with opposing the left, casting votes for the Republican Party, or yearning for the “good old days.” However, true conservatism runs deeper than these reactions, according to Glenn Beck. He argues that it’s about principles rather than merely reacting to contemporary issues, obsessing over policy, or idolizing the past. “That’s where we veered off course. We’ve strayed from our principles,” he emphasizes.
What are the Core Principles of Conservatism?
In the latest episode of “The Glenn Beck Program,” Glenn delivers an incisive monologue outlining the essence of true conservatism and why reinstating these values is vital for our nation’s future.
1. Stewardship
Glenn emphasizes that conservatism should embody stewardship—of a nation, a civilization, and a moral heritage that can’t just be disregarded. “To maintain,” he explains, means “to guard.” It’s about preserving what the Founders intended: a system rooted in the separation of powers and the rule of law, recognizing that our rights don’t originate from anyone but the Creator.
Sadly, he notes, this foundational blueprint is often looked at as a relic of the past instead of a dynamic agreement among generations.
2. Facing Reality
“This segment of conservatism must grapple with economic, global, and moral realities,” Glenn states. Merely opposing high taxes and inflation isn’t enough. Instead, we need to advocate for principles like “economic sovereignty” and “national independence.” “We must create an economy that champions freedom—not one bound by debt,” he insists.
3. Reclaiming America’s Soul
In our current “age of dislocation,” we see a decline in family values, faith, and objective truth. The consequences are troubling; rates of depression and suicide are surging as individuals search for meaning in technology and other distractions.
“If you’re keen on being a conservative, you need to embody a moral compass that guides those who have lost their way, reminding them that freedom devoid of virtue leads to chaos,” Glenn continues. He advocates for “rebuilding community,” encouraging engagement through families, education, and charities.
Connect these ideas, and Glenn offers a vision for future conservatives: individuals who will actively guide the nation’s institutions for the benefit of both present and future generations, while upholding our founding principles. He encourages a shift away from being fixated on the past or consumed by anger, instead pushing for reason and hope for what lies ahead. “We need to be the stewards who reignite the torch of America,” he concludes.
