Glenn Close has a detailed plan for the end of her life.
The 78-year-old actress appeared on Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ podcast, “Smarter than Me,” discussing her current project of building a replica of her grandparents’ stone house. She expressed a desire to pass away in that very place.
“They had this charming stone cabin on their farm, on what I believe used to be a slaughterhouse,” Close shared, reflecting on her memories of it. “But it transformed into a warm little cottage, which is one of my earliest memories.”
Close went on to describe the idyllic setting, with ivy growing over the stone, a hayfield surrounding it, and a white picket fence enclosing the space. “When I decided to build my house, I thought about creating a stone cottage behind it. It’s like I’m living my life in reverse. Those were truly the happiest, most emotional times for me,” she said.
She noted, “I’ve decided to spend my last days in that villa.”
The star of “Fatal Attraction” detailed that her cottage will include two bedrooms, one for her and another intended for a future caretaker. “And that’s where I’ll die,” she remarked. “I feel lucky.”
Louis-Dreyfus, who is 64, was taken aback, calling Close’s plans “extraordinary,” to which Close mentioned renovations on the cottage were already in progress.
“I think the stone part is complete, and this week construction on the porch will start,” Close elaborated. “There’s this cozy little porch that leads to the terrace, which brings me so much joy.”
Louis-Dreyfus praised Close’s approach to life, noting it was impressive how she orchestrates her life. This prompted her to consider building her own cottage nearby.
Close later shared with Louis-Dreyfus that she still feels quite youthful at her age. “Honestly, I feel like I’m in my 20s or maybe early 30s,” she stated.
“It’s quite something to reflect on how old I am,” she added. “I don’t really dwell on it because I don’t conform to what society expects from someone who’s 78.”
Since 2019, Close and her family have made Montana their home.
“Now, I call Bozeman home,” she noted in a recent interview, “All my siblings are here. My simple house, built in 1892, has a porch where I can admire the mountains and wave to my neighbors.”
Furthermore, she mentioned that she’s constructing a “Zen farmhouse” as a peaceful retreat for her family.
