Former Beauty Queen’s Mother-in-Law Arrested in Alleged Murder Case
On April 29, Erica Maria Guadalupe Herrera was taken into custody in Venezuela after reportedly fleeing the Mexico City apartment where her stepdaughter, Carolina Flores, was murdered earlier in the month.
Herrera’s arrest is tied to the shooting death of Flores, which occurred on April 15. Reports indicate that Herrera is set to be extradited to Mexico. It seems that Mexican authorities, specifically the Attorney General’s Office, had been investigating the circumstances surrounding Flores’ death and subsequently issued a warrant for Herrera’s arrest.
At the time of the incident, Flores was reportedly in her Polanco apartment with her husband, their baby, and Herrera. Allegedly, Herrera followed Flores into another room just before multiple gunshots were heard. A forensic report confirmed that Flores was shot multiple times, leading to her death.
The investigation revealed that Flores’ husband, Alejandro Sanchez, delayed reporting the incident as he was focused on their 8-month-old baby, who required care. Notably, prior to Herrera’s arrest, Mexican authorities had identified her as a person of interest in the case.
Additionally, security footage captured the interaction between Herrera and Flores before the shooting, with Herrera appearing to follow Flores just before the gunshots rang out. It’s a tragic chain of events that has drawn a spotlight on the investigation into domestic violence in the region.
