Investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance Continues
A black glove found near the home of Nancy Guthrie in the Tucson area is now being tested for DNA, which adds another layer to the ongoing investigation surrounding her disappearance. The gloves were discovered about a mile and a half from her residence, but it remains unclear if they are linked to a masked individual captured on surveillance footage at her home.
Law enforcement agents, including the FBI, were seen combing through desert brush along roadsides late Wednesday and into Thursday morning, focusing their efforts on the terrain near her property. Multiple police vehicles and a sheriff’s forensics truck were present as they searched the rocky grounds. However, officials haven’t disclosed what specifically prompted this search.
In addition, authorities are requesting Ring doorbell footage from local homes recorded between 9 p.m. and midnight on January 11, as well as between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on January 31. They believe this footage could be significant in the case.
Just days after the FBI released a clear black-and-white image of a masked individual seen on Guthrie’s porch the night she vanished—wearing a backpack and a gun holster—the search for more evidence intensified. In this image, the person seems to be reaching toward the doorbell camera, but what happened afterward is still unknown.
Authorities had briefly detained a man near the U.S.-Mexico border shortly after releasing the images, but he was later released after questioning. Searches were also conducted in Rio Rico—his place of residence—yet specific details regarding why he was detained have not been revealed, nor have any charges been filed.
Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home on January 31 and was reported missing the following day. Investigations suggest she was likely taken against her will. DNA tests confirmed that blood found on her balcony belonged to her.
Savannah Guthrie has expressed that her family remains hopeful Nancy is still alive, stating they are prepared to pay a ransom, although authorities have yet to verify the legitimacy of the ransom demands or any direct communication with those responsible.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office reported they’ve received thousands of tips as the investigation ramped up after the release of the surveillance images. FBI Director Kash Patel mentioned that investigators worked diligently for several days to access relevant footage that had been unavailable up until now.
As the search continues, concerns are growing about Nancy Guthrie’s health, given her reliance on several medications.
