The grieving family of a mother of two who was shot and killed by her former mother-in-law set up a GoFundMe page on Saturday to help her orphaned daughters.
The online fundraiser will be used for the “expenses and estate” of Marisa Galloway, who was shot and killed by former Chicago probation officer Kathleen Lee during a bitter battle for custody of her young child.
“Honoring Marisa Galloway: Supporting her LegacyThe initiative raised nearly $10,000 of its $50,000 goal within four hours of its launch.
“Marisa Galloway touched everyone she met. Her kindness, generosity and love were unmatched,” the GoFundMe states.
“She dedicated her life to her two beautiful daughters, Lili and Mariel. They were her world.”
“Marisa’s untimely passing leaves a huge hole in all of our lives, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her daughters and all of us,” the fundraiser continues.
The tragedy occurred on Friday on a quiet street on the Upper East Side during what appeared to be a custody transition.
Police said Galloway, a 45-year-old special education teacher, had put her 1-year-old daughter in the backseat of a parked white Honda Civic when Lee shot her in the head and back and then turned the gun on himself.
“She took away her mother to make her son happy… it’s shocking,” a police source said. “I’ve seen a lot of horrible things but this is biblical horrible.”
Police said Lee’s son lived with her in the East 79th Street apartment while she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and undergoing treatment.
Sources told The Post that the father had custody of his and Galloway’s 4-year-old daughter from Friday through Monday, and that Galloway was looking after her the rest of the week.
Lee suspected Galloway, a former volunteer coach at Fordham University and a director of the Central Park Track Club, of abusing young children.
Galloway and her ex-husband were involved in a series of domestic incidents between July and November 2021 that were reported to police.
