Goldie Hawn Reflects on 43-Year Relationship with Kurt Russell

After more than four decades together, Goldie Hawn expresses how the “freedom” in her relationship with Kurt Russell makes her feel fulfilled. As she prepares to launch her first children’s book, After School Kindness Crew: Ruth’s Pooches, in May, she shares insights about this new phase in her life and how her connection with Russell has only deepened over the years.

“My mission in life is to be happy and to be a role model for my children and family,” Hawn shared, marking her 80th birthday last November. “As you age, challenges can become tougher. Your mindset is crucial—how you perceive life and appreciate each moment matters. It’s all about fueling your thoughts positively. So I tell myself, ‘Everything is great right now.’

Hawn particularly appreciates the dynamic of her relationship with Russell, noting, “When I say I feel free, I mean liberated. I don’t feel trapped.” She emphasizes that they are a “good fit” for each other.

“We don’t always see eye to eye, which is completely fine. We’re both spontaneous individuals,” she adds, reflecting on the rewarding experiences they’ve shared together.

Hawn has two children, Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, from her previous marriage, while Russell has a son, Boston, from an earlier relationship. Hawn and Russell began dating in 1983 and also welcomed a son, Wyatt Russell.

During a 2024 appearance on SiriusXM’s “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” the Academy Award-winning actress discussed how their love for family serves as the “glue” holding them together. “We may have our differences—especially in politics and other areas—but what truly matters is our family, the greatest blessing,” she remarked.

Despite their disagreements, Hawn admires Russell for his commitment to family. “He’s a family man. I can’t quite explain it, but he was just right for me—not just because he’s attractive, but because he matched my dedication to my kids. His personality and focus on family were truly appealing.”

Kate Hudson echoed her mother’s sentiments. “Their relationship is the heart of our family,” Hudson told SiriusXM. “From the outside, it may seem perfect, but trust me, our family is wonderfully chaotic. We all have different personalities, yet we share the desire to enjoy life to the fullest. There’s such joy present, even during our arguments.”

With the upcoming release of her book, Hawn is embracing this latest chapter in her life. “I believe every life needs different sections. Doing the same thing endlessly doesn’t appeal to me,” she expressed. “I realized around the age of 55 that I wanted to explore what the next part of my life would look like. There’s still so much to learn and experience.”
