Golf Talk Today: The most colorful quotes from PGA Tour, LPGA players’ so far this week

Welcome to Playing Through’s daily ritual, Golf Talk Today.

Each day, the crew will discuss a different element of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf and more.

This is a big week in professional golf, with the LPGA playing its final major of the season and the PGA Tour in the midst of the FedExCup Playoffs.

Both tours have their challenges this week, with 40 mph winds at the AIG Women’s Open at St. Andrews and PGA Tour players playing at high altitude at Castle Pines Golf Club in the BMW Championship.

With another day of golf coming to an end, I thought I’d share some of my favorite quotes from the first round of the BMW Championship and Women’s Open.

“This is my favorite place ever. I like it here more than home.”

— Georgia Hall, the home of golf.

“Yeah, it’s great. I play this course a lot in individual tournaments. It’s totally different to playing it in real life. It’s fun.”

— Ruoning Yin from St. Andrews.

“That was tough. It was a headache. Usually the greens are so fast that the ball rolls off the green. I’ve never had to hold back so many putts. I was standing up and off balance. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.”

— Rose Chan on her memorable first round.

“It’s fun to play in those situations, even though we don’t do it every time. It’s a different creative aspect and that’s fun.”

“Derrick and I played basketball against each other from the third or fourth grade all the way through high school basketball. We defended each other and had a lot of mutual friends, so we always respected each other.”

— Wyndham Clark on how he met NBA star Derrick White

“There are so many similarities to Muirfield Village, with Jack Nicklaus’ signatures all over the place, and so is this place…”

— Adam Scott at Jack Nicklaus’ Castle Pines course.

“Sunday afternoon was one of the toughest afternoons of my PGA Tour career. It was brutal. It’s a real relief to be here. I’m a lot calmer today…I want to be with my guys and my Ryder Cup team, on the practice range, in the locker room and in the tournament. For me, it was important to get this top 50 finish.”

— Keegan Bradley talks about making the top 50 and why it means so much to him.

“I went to San Diego State University, so I studied math the most I’ve studied in a while.”

— Xander Schauffele talking about calculating shot distances at altitude.
