Unexpected Encounter on the Golf Course

Golfers are used to chasing birdies, but one unexpectedly hit a bird instead.

During the opening round of the Cognizant Classic on Thursday at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Ryan Gerrard accidentally struck a bird with his golf ball.

The incident occurred on the par-3 seventh hole. As Gerrard took aim from over 200 yards, his shot soared through the air, only to collide with a bird flying by, sending feathers scattering in the process.

Amazingly, the golf ball ended up just a few feet from the hole. Even more remarkable is that the bird seemed to escape unharmed.

According to golfer Smiley Kaufman, “The bird is alive and well.”

Kaufman humorously noted that the bird executed an impressive 360-degree maneuver to avoid the ball, adding that the young creature was still flying around.

Gerrard, who was among the tournament favorites, finished the hole with a par after two putts, much to the relief of those watching.

So far, no further bird-related incidents have been reported.
