Victor Perez Scores a Memorable Hole-in-One at US Open

Victor Perez’s experience at the challenging Oakmont Golf Course on Friday turned out to be quite remarkable. During the second round of the US Open, the French golfer managed to land a rare hole-in-one.

This was only the second hole-in-one recorded at the US Open held at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. Perez accomplished this impressive feat with a seven-iron from 192 yards on the par-3 sixth hole. The ball bounced several times before finally rolling about three feet into the cup.

Perez, clearly excited, raised his arm in celebration and shared a moment with his caddy, further enjoying the cheers from the crowd along with his fellow players, Adam Schenk and Jacob Bridgeman.

After the shot, Perez humbly acknowledged that, well, achieving a hole-in-one isn’t solely about skill. “Obviously, hole-in-ones require a bit of luck,” he mentioned. “Honestly, I was just about 15-20 feet past the hole and was getting ready to hit again. I think it might have spun a little more and then bounced in. I was quite lucky.”

Perez noted that this hole-in-one marked the ninth of his career. He recalled two previous aces made at his home course in the Bahamas, but no one could confirm those since he was playing solo at the time.

According to historical records, the last confirmed ace at Oakmont during the US Open occurred in 1983, when Scott Simpson made his shot on the 16th hole in the first round.

Perez’s hole-in-one helped him bounce back from a challenging start to his round, ultimately finishing the second round tied for sixth after scoring one over. As for Sam Burns, he took the lead at three under, following a ninth-place finish in last year’s US Open.
