The Good News Club, a Christian youth organization, worked in every school district in the state of Hawaii to ensure equal access to all public school facilities. “This is a welcome victory not only for CEF Hawaii, but for all Christian organizations in the public square,” Fred Pry, CEF acting vice president for administration, said in a statement shared with CP.. “The constitution clearly provides that the government cannot discriminate on the basis of religion or freedom of speech.”
He asserted that all children “have the right to the opportunity to hear the life-saving truth about the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
“CEF will continue to fight for equal rights and access in public schools,” Pray said. “We've had at least 200 incidents and we've never lost one.”

The suit alleges that the district violated the First and 14th Amendments by allowing similar non-religious groups to use school facilities while denying the Good News Club the same opportunities.
Five months later, Liberty Counsel preliminary injunction The Hawaii Department of Education and the six elementary schools named in the lawsuit have ruled that the Good News Club should have the same right to gather on school property as other clubs. Additionally, the permanent injunction issued on Nov. 19 was broader in scope, providing that the Good News Club has the right to meet on any public school campus in the state.
This decision follows a 2001 Supreme Court decision. ruling in Good News Club vs. Milford Central SchoolPublic Schools Restrict Christian Clubs' Rights After Milford Central School in Milford, New York, sought to restrict the Good News Club from hosting meetings on public school campuses. I concluded that it was not possible.
“The Milford restriction violates the club's right to free speech, and no Establishment Clause concern justifies its violation,” the court said at the time.
Despite this, the Good News Club continues to fight to remain active in public schools more than 20 years later.
Now, Liberty Counsel is “preparing another lawsuit against a California school district,” adding that “the district welcomes all opinions, with the exception of Christian clubs.”
The law firm asserted that “Liberty Counsel has never lost a Good News Club case.''
