Goodyear executive Chris Delaney’s lover taken into custody for wife’s murder

A company executive is no longer with Goodyear following the arrest of his mistress, who is accused of killing his wife. Chris Delaney had a lucrative compensation package of nearly $5 million annually and served as the president for the European, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions at Goodyear until recently.

His alleged lover, Greet Vandepatt, who worked as an executive assistant at Goodyear, is reportedly a married woman from Belgium.

On March 17, after returning home to his Brussels apartment, Delaney discovered his wife, Carmel, dead on the floor from multiple stab wounds, according to reports. Delaney, who doesn’t speak French, sought assistance from Vandepatt before alerting the police.

Initially, it was thought that Carmel’s death might be the result of a botched robbery. Surveillance footage captured an individual wearing a mask entering the building shortly before Carmel arrived home, but there were no signs of forced entry. However, three expensive clocks were missing from their apartment.

Two days later, Carmel was laid to rest in New York, while Vandepatt was arrested in connection with the murder.

During the investigation, it emerged that there was communication between Delaney and Vandepatt, which raised suspicions. Vandepatt faces charges of murder and other related offenses.

An autopsy indicated that Carmel sustained four stab wounds. The case took a turn when friends of Vandepatt expressed concern after overhearing a conversation, prompting police to search her home and nearby stables, where they recovered one of the missing clocks.

Delaney has been interviewed by police as a witness but has not been charged with any wrongdoing. A representative from Goodyear stated that the company would cooperate with any investigations, confirming that Delaney had not retired from his position.

Carmel Delaney, known for her marketing career with Procter & Gamble, lived a vibrant life, as highlighted by memories shared in her online tribute. Vandepatt, who had several years of experience at Goodyear, resided near Brussels with her family.

In 2017, Chris and Carmel moved to Brussels, where he took charge of Goodyear’s operations in the region while she managed a consultancy for international students seeking U.S. education. Friends described their relationship as deeply caring and supportive, despite the tumultuous circumstances now surrounding them.

Chris has since returned to the U.S., and memorial plans for Carmel are underway in Brussels. She was 61 at the time of her untimely passing and is survived by her father, husband, and four children.
