The House passed a bill Tuesday aimed at blocking the Biden administration’s ban on everyday appliances that run on natural gas.
The appliance ban, which passed 212-195, is one aspect of a sweeping bill targeting the Department of Energy (DOE) introduced by Arizona Republican Rep. Debbie Lesko.
The bill would require DOE to consider the cost-effectiveness of new policy standards, such as how updates affecting home appliances impact low-income households, and the department would will be required to take into account the costs in advance. We are issuing new guidance.

The DOE’s proposed review of energy efficiency standards announced in February last year would see up to 50% of gas stoves disappear from the market once they go into effect in 2027.
The proposal sparked widespread conservative opposition. Ultimately, it was not included in the Biden administration’s final plan for energy efficiency standards updates announced in January.
