House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-ny) argued on Sunday on ABC's “this week” that the Republican budget was “non-starter” and would receive opposition from all Democrats.
Host Jonathan Carle said: Over the past two years, Republicans have not been able to pass government funding without democratic support. Some of the outside supporters say you need to use it as leverage. The possibility of government shutting down could push back some of what the Trump administration is doing now. Do you need to agree to go with Mike Johnson and the Republicans with efforts to fund the government? ”
Jeffries said: As a Republican president, a Republican home, and a Republican Senate, they are responsible for ensuring that the government is open and can function. As a Democrat, with regard to all spending contracts, our views, our tests say that spending contracts are in terms of their health, safety, our national security, and certainly everyday American economic well-being. It is about meeting the needs of the American people. Rosa Delauro is a top Democrat on the Appropriations Committee. She is in conversation with her Republican and Democratic colleagues in the House. We'll see how it will unfold over the next few weeks, but we'll see that the agreement that will ultimately be signed off must meet the needs of Americans and fully implement it. Complying with the law. ”
He added: All Democrats opposed it a few days ago and I believe it will remain our position because it is out of control. ”
