Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Monday on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” that the Republican Party has become a “cult of thugs” with anxious voters who are being duped by the claims of former President Donald Trump.
“I hope his family steps in. If they love him, I hope they step in. I hope the Republican Party steps in. They’ve become a cult of thugs,” Pelosi said.
She continued, “This is a real tragedy for the Grand Old Party, for them. And speaking of fears, really, what worries me is some of my constituents who are going to be fooled by his story. But the reason I’m here tonight is to tell you that on this day, when he tried to return to the scene of the crime, he didn’t have the courage to come to the Capitol, just as he didn’t have the courage to come to the Capitol on January 6th.”
Pelosi added, “This cannot be swept under the rug. This is an insult to our Founding Fathers and an attempt to destroy the sacrifices of our service members who fought for our freedom and the aspirations of our children to live in this great country.”
