GOP lawmaker says Tlaib should be 'run out of town' over 'genocide' sign

Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas) said Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) should be “run out of town” over the sign she held up during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress on Wednesday.

“She is out of control and should be censored… and ‘run out of town’…” Weber stated in the post On social platform X.

Tlaib, a frequent and harsh critic of Netanyahu and the Israeli government amid Israel’s war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, held up signs reading both “war criminals” and “guilty of genocide.”

Other Republican lawmakers also denounced Tlaib over the sign, including Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina. He captioned the photo. Tlaib’s X-shaped sign reads: “Iran’s useful idiot.”

“It is utterly shameful that leaders of both parties invited him to speak on Capitol Hill,” Tlaib said in a statement Tuesday.

“He should be arrested and sent to the International Criminal Court,” she continued in her statement.

“Rashida Tlaib continues to be an utter disgrace,” said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-Ill.). He said in his post About X.

Congressman Anthony D’Esposito (New York) X captioned the post. It included a photo of Tlaib holding up a sign that read, “A useful idiot for the terrorist regime.”

However, not all reactions from fellow lawmakers on social media were negative.

“I agree with that,” said Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill. stated in the post X features a photo of Tlaib holding up a sign.

Netanyahu has faced outrage from the left over his handling of the Israel-Hamas war and the humanitarian crisis, and is due to meet with President Biden on Thursday and former President Trump on Friday, with several Democratic lawmakers announcing they would boycott Wednesday’s speech.

The Hill has reached out to Tlaib’s office for comment.
