Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) argued on CNN's “News Central” that some of her Republican colleagues personally say President Donald Trump's actions against Ukraine have gone too far.
Shaheen said, “Vladimir Putin is a murderous dictator. He is a thug who understands one thing, and whenever he thinks it's strength and he can make Donald Trump even better, he's going to do it.”
She continued. “We have 10 Democrats and 10 Republicans, the fifth in the Senate on that resolution, because of the bipartisan support of the Ukrainian Senate. I think most of us were scared when we saw what the US did at the UN. We were on the side of not only Russia, but North Korea in Sudan, countries that don't believe in democracy and support peaceful solutions.”
She added: “I hope our Republican colleagues wake up and say that this is not the direction we should be heading. That's what we should do. There are three divisions of government, so there's checks and balance. So we have surveillance powers and we need them to step up and say publicly that our Republican colleagues are happy to step up and say they're personally happy to say the president has gone too far.”
Host Sarah Sidner asked, “You personally hear from Republicans that the president has gone too far when it comes to Ukraine.”
Shaheen said, “Yes.”
