GOP Rep. Gimenez: We're 75% Finished Reducing Iran's Military Power, We Should Have Completed It

Rep. Jimenez Discusses U.S. Approach to Iran

During a recent episode of CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Representative Carlos Jimenez (R-Fla.) expressed his views on Iran’s military capabilities. He stated, “We should have finished the mission. I think we’re about 75 percent there, and everything should have been destroyed. Some of their missiles are likely underground. Maybe they’ve even destroyed the entrance, keeping them out of reach for a while. Still, I wish we could have done more to lessen their military power.”

Co-host Pamela Brown followed up by noting that the Trump administration has claimed the U.S. military has significantly weakened Iran’s military assets, including its navy and missiles. However, a recent report indicated that Iran still possesses a considerable amount of weaponry, raising a concern for Jimenez about trusting Iran. She asked, “Is that a worry for you?”

Jimenez affirmed, “Yes, that does concern me. I really think they should have completed the job. With 75% done, it would have been better to eliminate all threats. There might be underground storage of some of their missiles, and blowing up the entrance potentially buys us time. But ideally, I would have liked us to go a bit further to curb their military capabilities. I don’t have all the information. I realize the president prefers diplomacy over conflict, and I want to see those diplomatic efforts have a fair chance. For me, verification is crucial – strict guidelines to ensure Iran doesn’t have nuclear weapons now or in the future. That’s essential for any agreement.

Jimenez added, “I think, once you relieve pressure on them, they start to feel more empowered. The Iranians are skilled negotiators, and if we ease our influence, they’ll likely become more ambitious. Honestly, I think they will try to shift the terms in their favor.” He also mentioned the possibility of needing to address the situation again in the future if necessary.
