Rep. Kat Cammack Evacuates Office After Death Threat

Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) announced on Wednesday that her office was forced to evacuate following an “immediate death threat.” This precaution came just days after she shared her experience with an ectopic pregnancy last year.

Currently pregnant, Cammack stated that the threats targeted her personally, as well as her unborn child, family, and staff. She mentioned this on her social media, indicating the situation was serious.

The lawmaker elaborated on how the threats began after a report by the Wall Street Journal highlighted her life-threatening ectopic pregnancy, a situation where the fetus develops outside the uterus without a heartbeat. “Since then, we’ve been inundated with thousands of hateful messages and dozens of credible threats, which law enforcement is actively looking into,” she noted.

Cammack, who represents Florida’s 3rd Congressional District, shared screenshots of some alarming messages that she received. She recently wrote about the challenges she faced with her pregnancy in the Wall Street Journal.

One disturbing message read, “The only good Republican is… a dead person,” which reflected the extreme sentiments she faced. Another message ominously stated, “Counting your days.”

In her Wall Street Journal piece, Cammack detailed her struggles in getting medical care due to Florida’s six-week abortion ban, which she encountered after discovering she was five weeks pregnant. She highlighted the fears that healthcare providers have about losing their licenses or facing imprisonment if they help women seeking to terminate their pregnancies.

“For those spreading misinformation: I didn’t vote for Florida’s abortion laws. I work in the U.S. House of Representatives, not the Florida Legislature,” Cammack asserted in her social media post.

She firmly stated, “Let me be clear: I will not be threatened. I will continue to stand up for women and families. It’s crucial that women receive the care they need.”

Calling for a necessary dialogue on maternal healthcare, Cammack emphasized that such discussions should be grounded in truth rather than fear.

Despite being generally opposed to abortion, Cammack does support it in cases involving rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is at risk. Her office and the Capitol Police have yet to respond to requests for comments on the ongoing situation.
