GOP Representative Aims to Abolish Biden's Green Energy Office

Proposed Legislation to Eliminate Green Energy Office

Rep. Brandon Gill, a Republican from Texas, introduced a bill on Thursday aiming to dismantle the Clean Energy Demonstration Bureau (OCED), a federal office established during the Biden administration.

The OCED Removal Act seeks to disband this office, which falls under the Department of Energy (DOE). It was created as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Back in 2021, while President Biden was in office, the bureau had allocated $25 billion for green energy initiatives aimed at addressing climate change.

Gill remarked, “President Trump advocated for ending what he called the Green New Scam and the Globalist Climate Agenda that has festered under Democratic leadership for the last four years. Now, we’re emphasizing America’s energy production.” He described the OCED as an “ineffective office” that has squandered billions, stating that his legislation would ensure its permanent closure.

In May, DOE Secretary Chris Wright announced the termination of 24 awards previously issued by OCED, which resulted in savings of about $3.7 billion for taxpayers. Wright attributed this cut to initiatives aimed at reducing financial burdens on Americans, aligning with Trump’s agenda during his presidency.

The OCED’s commitment to green energy projects includes technical reactors, which both Trump and the DOE have defended. However, much of the funding from OCED has directed toward hydrogen hubs and carbon capture initiatives, which Gill argues reflect the broader climate agenda pushed by Biden and the Democrats.

This proposed legislation calls for the repeal of a specific section of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act enacted under Biden. Trump has openly opposed the climate agenda, declaring a national energy emergency to promote traditional energy production when he returned to office in January. Since then, he has issued several executive orders aimed at facilitating affordable energy options, including nuclear and coal.
