GOP Representative Jim Baird and his wife are still in the hospital following a hit-and-run accident.

Indiana Republican Congressman Jim Baird and his wife are currently hospitalized following a hit-and-run incident that occurred while they were en route to Washington, D.C. Both are receiving medical treatment and, according to his office, are expected to fully recover.

The accident took place on Monday night.

President Trump addressed the situation during a speech to House Republicans, expressing hope for the couple’s recovery. “I want to congratulate Congressman Jim Baird and his wife who are recovering from a car accident. I think they’ll be okay, but it was quite serious,” Trump stated at the Kennedy Center, adding that both of them are doing well.

“Congressman Baird is hospitalized and is projected to make a complete recovery. We deeply appreciate everyone’s prayers during this time. He looks forward to continuing to serve Hoosiers,” a statement from Baird’s office mentioned, also noting ongoing efforts to assist constituents.

No details have emerged about the accident’s location or the specific injuries sustained.

However, Baird’s son, Beau Baird, a state representative in Indiana, shared on social media that although their vehicle rolled over several times, both his parents are stable, alert, and on the mend. He added that law enforcement is actively investigating the case and confirmed there were no signs of political motives.

Political analysts emphasize the importance of Baird’s swift recovery as Republicans need every vote to uphold their majority, especially following the passing of Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.) and the departure of Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

Baird has represented Indiana’s 4th Congressional District since 2019, focusing on veterans’ issues and agricultural matters. He is a Vietnam War veteran who lost his left arm in combat.

Recently, Baird lauded the Trump administration for its initiative against Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, highlighting the need for decisive leadership to protect American lives.

“We are lucky to have a president willing to protect American lives. Strong leadership is crucial for our service members to successfully tackle challenging missions against threats to our nation,” Baird stated.
