GOP Senators Introduce Bill Cutting ATF Red Tape on Background Checks

Officers Jim Riche (R-ID), Mike Krapo (R-ID), Steve Daines (R-MT) and Cynthia Ramis (R-WY) were among the Republican lawmakers who introduced legislation Thursday to cut down the Red Red Red Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFs).

Other co-sponsored senators include James Lankford (R-OK), Cindy Hyde Smith (R-MS), Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Tim Sheehee (R-MT).

The law is the ATF Transparency Act. It focuses on the bureaucratic process that leads to law-abiding gun owners being mistakenly flagged or falsely denied passing background checks via other errors that occur positive or behind the scenes.

Commenting on the law, Riche said, “The law-abiding gun owners mistakenly denied that the second right to amendment should be able to appeal their case through an efficient and transparent process. ATF Transparency Act It's easy. It codifies the current appeal process, maintains ATFs at a higher standard, and provides legitimate gun owners in Idaho with a faster, more equitable process for firearm applications. ”

Daines also commented, “The second amendment is an integral part of Montana's way of life, and law-abiding citizens should not be worried about their constitutional rights being denied due to processing errors. This law creates a quick and transparent appeal process for Montanan, which has been mistakenly flagged by the ATF.

Aidan Johnston, gun owner and US director of federal affairs, said:

American gun owners are proud to support Sen. Riche's law to eliminate the ATF's bureaucratic loophole in the already unconstitutional National Firearms Act. The ATF is deceiving Congress and the American people with inaccurate presumption of NFA approval. There is no reason why NFA approval times should take longer than normal background checks, especially as it shows that the ATF can quickly approve the form after directing Congress. The delay on the right is the rejected right.

One aspect of the ATF transparency method:[requires] ATF will process your application within 3 days. If ATF does not do so, the application will be automatically approved. ” Such a timeframe aims to focus on the importance of quickly completing the background so that law-abiding citizens delay the exercise of their second right to amend.
