Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Tuesday in ABC's “view” that the reason he voted to keep the government open was that Republican senators told Democrats that he “defeat the entire federal government.”
Schumer said, “Here is the reason I did it. I wasn't going to take this flack just for fun. Government closures work like this. All government spending is stopped.
He continued, “The OMB is the office of the management budget that determines spending, and they could just block out what they wanted by saying it wasn't essential. It was a long time when courts were closed, but this is what they want to close fish.
Schumer said, “So this would have been very devastating. This is probably just as bad, there may be no exit strategy. How can we get out of the closure? Who will decide that?
