GOP Whip Demands Ilhan Omar Be "Imprisoned and Removed" If Her Citizenship Is False

Tom Emmer Calls for Action Against Ilhan Omar

Tom Emmer, the third-ranking Republican in the House and the highest-ranking lawmaker from Ilhan Omar’s home state of Minnesota, has suggested that the Somalia-born congresswoman should face imprisonment and deportation if she or her family is found to have falsified her citizenship documents.

Omar is currently the focus of a federal investigation following allegations that she and possibly her father provided incorrect information regarding her birth date on immigration forms in order to secure her citizenship after her family fled Somalia in the 1990s.

If the reported birth date indicates she was under 18 when she became a citizen, and this information is proven to be false, it could mean that her citizenship is invalid, disqualifying her from serving in Congress.

Emmer spoke to Fox News Digital, remarking that “there have been rumors for years” concerning Omar’s background. He emphasized that if these allegations turned out to be true, there should be significant consequences.

In response, Omar and several fellow Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have pushed back against the investigation, suggesting it is a politically motivated attack by former President Donald Trump against a frequent critic. They also point out the problematic timing of the investigation, occurring just weeks before the crucial midterm elections.

Yet, Emmer did not hold back his stance. He expressed, “I would say first she should probably serve time in the gray bar motel and then get the hell out of here. She should go back to where she came from … if it’s determined that she lied to gain citizenship.”

Omar is part of the well-known progressive group in Congress dubbed the “Squad,” alongside representatives like Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Earlier this week, federal agents conducted a search of her home, reportedly taking her cellphone and other items as part of their investigation.

These allegations tie back to her father gaining American citizenship in 2000, a year when supporters assert Omar was just 17, which could have made her eligible for citizenship as a minor child of a new citizen. If she were actually 18, as some recent claims suggest, she would need to undergo the standard naturalization process.

After the raid, Omar took to social media to express her views, stating, “I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”

Supporters of Omar have deemed the investigation an unprecedented move, especially with Election Day approaching on November 3. Jeffries and his associates expressed concern over the “deeply disturbing” nature of the raid, accusing the president of utilizing immigration law to attack opponents.

Emmer, however, argues that the investigation is not politically motivated. He referred to the judicial authorization of the search warrant, reasoning that a judge must have found probable cause to issue it. “So the fact that they issued the warrant in the first place and then executed it, I mean maybe after all these years, someone is finally going to hold Ilhan Omar accountable,” he stated.
