Gordon Hayward’s wife, Robin, is known for being outspoken, especially when it comes to matters concerning her husband. She recently attacked Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti after he was held accountable for signing the Hayward trade.
“I missed that,” Presti said, via ESPN, “and that’s on me. But I’m learning. I’m trying to learn this team. I’m trying to learn the pace of the team a little bit and be a good observer of the team knowing that while they’re on track, the team itself is really changing.”
In February, the NBA traded Hayward to the Charlotte Hornets for Tre Mann, Vasilije Misic, David Bertans, and future draft picks. Hayward averaged 14.5 points in 25 games with the Hornets.

Robin responded to a social media post featuring Presti’s comments, firing back at Presti: “Why trade someone and not let him play?…Missed an opportunity by not including him on the team,” she wrote.

Hayward’s production declined since arriving in Oklahoma City, with the one-time NBA All-Star averaging just 5.3 points per game. Hayward’s playing time also fell significantly, averaging just 17.2 minutes on the basketball court in 26 games with the Thunder.

Sam Presti spoke to reporters on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in Oklahoma City.
Hayward’s playing time was also limited in the playoffs, with him only attempting three shots.
Gordon has previously expressed frustration over his short tenure in Oklahoma City.
“I think I have a lot to contribute as a player,” Gordon said, according to ESPN. “I just haven’t been given many opportunities to do it. I thought I would be given that opportunity.”

During the 2022-23 season, Hayward suffered a fractured shoulder. Prior to their November 2022 game against the Timberwolves, the Hornets announced that Hayward would miss the game due to a shoulder contusion.
However, Robin took issue with the way the Hornets explained the injury.

Although a bruised shoulder is not as serious as a broken shoulder, Robin took to social media to express her frustration with the discrepancy.
“He actually had a broken scapula… they made him play with it in his last game… so he couldn’t move his arm up in his last game,” she wrote on Instagram.
She then added, “I’m going to stop here and not go into what happened before,” before continuing in a subsequent Instagram Story.
She concluded: “I’m tired of them not protecting their players. I was just talking to a young player’s mom and she said the same thing…”
Hayward is set to become a free agent this offseason.
