Gotham FC Extends Contract for Midfielder Jadyn Shaw

Gotham FC made an announcement on Thursday regarding a contract extension for 20-year-old midfielder Jadyn Shaw, ensuring her presence with the team until the end of the 2029 season.

As reported by Spotrac, this deal reflects Gotham’s strong belief in Shaw, a 2024 Olympic gold medalist, as a pivotal part of their core roster, which also includes players like Esther Gonzalez, Jaelynn Howell, and Tierna Davidson, all set to remain until at least 2027.

It’s worth noting that Rose Lovell’s current contract will be up after next season.

Yael Apfelbusch-West, the general manager and director of football operations for Gotham, expressed excitement over Shaw’s extension, stating he is “thrilled” to have her on board for the next four years.

Averback-West highlighted Shaw’s impressive qualities demonstrated during her short tenure with the team, indicating a bright future for her development within the club.

Shaw joined Gotham from North Carolina Courage earlier this September, for what was described as an NWSL-record transfer fee of $1.25 million.

Coach Juan Carlos Amoros has high hopes for Shaw, describing her as “very special.” In her debut match for Gotham against San Diego Wave, the same team where she first started her professional career at just 17, Shaw managed to score. Since then, she has participated in nine matches with Gotham, making seven starts.

Teammate Jaelynn Howell emphasized Shaw’s importance to the team, referring to her as a “huge addition.” Howell remarked on how much the team values Shaw’s contributions both on and off the field and expressed optimism about having her stay for an extended period. She also noted that such commitment from a player like Shaw speaks volumes about the club’s culture.

Interestingly enough, this extension was finalized just three days prior to Gotham’s NWSL playoffs, where they will face the top-performing Kansas City Current in the quarterfinals.
